I had a wonderful time visiting Paris and going to Interfiliere and Salon de la Lingerie show. I also did all the tourist visits and sight seeing. I took my sketchbook with me everywhere I went in order to gather as much inspiration as I could for my Parisian Chic project. The brief for this project was to design and make a bra, suspender belt and knickers that all worked well together. It had to be made in black with one accent colour. I based my garments on the red light district; I wanted to focus on the reality contrasted with how we as tourist perceive the red light district. At first glance I thought it was all glitz and glamour but I soon realized that wasn’t the case. I portrayed this through my garments by creating delicate lace pieces but combining them with elastic strapping to show that the women are almost trapped. I emphasized this idea with the strapping around the legs of the suspenders, as some of the women where dancing behind windows or metal bars. My garments where one of few selected to show at the end of year catwalk show. My garments have also been shown in another in house catwalk.
